On behalf of the ESCD members THANK YOU to the Local and Scientific Committee for the 9th Congress of the European Society of Contact Dermatitis in Estoril, Portugal last May 2008.

Francisco M. Brandao as President of the Organizing Committee reported that at least 401 participants were registered, 126 also for the Pre-Congress Symposium. There were 228 presentations.
The number of participants by country was: Portugal – 87; Denmark – 38; Sweden – 35; The Netherlands – 27; Spain – 26; Germany – 25; England – 25; France- 24; Finland – 20; Switzerland – 13; Belgium- 7; USA – 4. Together with representatives from Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Russia, Norway, Israel, Greece, Japan, Ireland, Scotland, Czech Republic, Italy, Croatia, Australia, Canada, Slovakia, Lithuania, Slovenia, Poland, Bulgaria, Turkey, Austria, Iceland, Luxembourg, China, UAE.

The ESCD executive committee, as did Prof. Meneses Brandao, thanks the Congress sponsors: Chemotechnique, Mekos, Marti Tor, Basilea Pharmaceutica, Epitest, Courage+Khazaka Electronic, IFRA, Leo Farmacêuticos and Medinfar for their collaboration during the scientific event .

The need for a more active and useful ESCD Website from the scientific, educational and administrative point of view was established at the executive meeting in Strasbourg, 2007. The new Website has been created by Ludwood Interactive. The design of the new web is complete and the new Website will be available during 2008.

The executive committee will also include Jean-Pierre Lepoittevin as Past President, Mark Wilkinson as Treasurer and Ana Giménez-Arnau as Secretary.

The purpose of the ESCD is to promote interest, stimulate research and disseminate information on all aspects of contact dermatitis and other environmental and occupational skin diseases.


Next educational meetings, ESCD supported…

The ESCD is organizing a  “Botanical Dermatology Course and Workshop” that will be in Odense (Denmark) 27-29 August 2009. The number of participants will be limited to 25 plus faculty. The aim is to give the participants a basic and clinical understanding of dermatitis elicited by plants with focus on allergic contact dermatitis. The organizers of this event are, Evy Paulsen, Lars P Christensen and KE Andersen.

The ESCD supports the “Photopatch Test Course” organized by Radoslaw Spiewak on 25-26 September 2009 in Krakow, Poland


The ESCD will really appreciate your support of the “10th European Society of Contact Dermatitis Congress”. It will be in Strasbourg on September 15th-18th, 2010 at Palais des Congrès. Prof Jean Pierre Lepoitevin is the President. It will be simultaneous with the GERDA (Groupe d´Etude et Recherche de Dermato Allergologie) annual meeting. The first announcement was during the 9th ESCD Congress.

The local organizing committee includes: Annick Barbaud, Elena Giménez-Arnau, Christophe J Le Coz, Catherine Pecquet and Martine Vigan. The Scientific Committee is Chaired and Co-chaired by An Goossens and Klaus E Andersen respectively.

The ESCD will also sponsor the English translation of  www.jobbafrisk.es  

Working Parties Activities

ESSCA Working Party
ESSCA is continuously expanding. The report on patch test results collected in 2004 has been published at the JEADV. The 2005 data summary from all the ESSCA associated researchers were analyzed and reported to each center. During the 9th ESCD Congress an ESSCA business meeting was held. ESSCA will be present as Sister Society at the EADV Congress in Berlín 2009. 

Fragance Working Party
A meeting with the IFRA was held, April 25, 2008. An epidemiology study related to Lyral and Belay will start.

Occupational Working Party
The members of this working party are working on Skin prevention measures guidelines.

Photopatch Working Party
“A prospective, open, multicentre photopatch test study of patients suspected of photoallergy to organic sunscreens and topical nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs used within Europe” coordinated by Prof James Ferguson from Scotland UK commences this year.

Patch test Working Party
The group will publish the recommendation from the EECDRG to patch test MCI/MI at 200 ppm.
